UltraLadies Training Run - April 5

Welcome UltraLadies!

 

We are happy to have you join us to train for the Bulldog 50K or 25K or any other summer ultra you are planning to run. The ULs training runs are held every-other Saturday morning leading up to the Bulldog race date in August. Whether you’re a "newbie" or a veteran ultra runner, please take the time to read all the information on the web pages, especially the TRAIL GUIDELINES and FAQs, that includes information for your well-being and safety and that of the group. It is always a good idea to check the LATEST INFO update on the night before each run in case there has been a last minute change of location or even run cancellation. This has happened on occasion due to park closures due to fire, for instance. This can be found at

TRAINING RUN: Saturday, April 5

LOCATION: Marvin Braude Mulholland Gateway Park (Valley Crest Half Marathon site). Exit the 101 Fwy at Reseda Blvd in Tarzana. Turn South/west and go all the way up the hill. Continue through the gate into Marvin Braude Mulholland Gateway Park.  Be aware that speeds and stop signs on Reseda are monitored by police.

PARKING:  There is free parking below the white line in the street.  Note photo enforced STOP SIGN above the white line.

 

MEETING LOCATION:  We will meet at the white line.

 

MEETING TIME:  6:45AM – Please arrive early to park, shoes tied, bottles filled, ready to run. We will have a short trial briefing at 6:45 a.m.

 

SIGN-IN SHEET: When you arrive, please use the sign-in sheet on the clipboard located on the windshield of the gray Honda Element. Please PRINT legibly and remember to check off when you return from your run.

 

RUN TIME: 7:00 AM – Sharp!

DISTANCE: 14 miles (more-or-less).

MAXIMUM RUNNING TIME: 3h30m – Slower runners, please turn around at 1h40m or at 7-miles, whichever comes first. This will allow 1:50 to return. When you run with the ULs, you agree to turn-around at the required time. 

WATER: Water available at Nike Base aka San Vicente Mt. Park, accessed at mile 3.6, and again at mile 10.7.

TOILETS: At Nike Base, per above.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This is an out-and-back 14-mile run on hilly, graded fire roads. The first 3-miles are mostly up hill; next four are mostly down hill; next four are mostly up hill, last three are mostly down hill.

~ SIGN IN SHEET:
* Please "PRINT" your name legibly.
* Please give the license number of your vehicle. This will help to determine who might still be out on the course versus who turned back early and drove home.
* Please check your name off the list when you return from your run.  Failure to check back after your run may result in search & rescue being called, at your expense.

~ Trails will be marked with flour arrows. You may get lost. Hikers may erase the arrows. Other running clubs mark their own arrows too. Fatigue may cause you to miss an arrow. Pay attention to your surroundings to avoid getting lost!

3.50         Continue on Mulholland through San Vicente fire gate

3.55 mi Turn right onto Water and Power Pole Rd – paved driveway

3.60 mi San Vicente Park aka Nike Base (toilets/water)

3.62 mi Continue through San Vicente Park onto W Mandeville fire road aka Westridge

4.11 mi Slight right to stay on W Mandeville fire road

7.2 mi Continue on W Mandeville fire road to dead-end at Westridge (TURN AROUND)

7.2 mi Head north on W Mandeville fire road

10.79mi Continue through San Vicente Park aka Nike Base (toilets/water).

10.8 mi Turn left onto Water and Power Pole Rd – paved driveway

10.86mi Turn left onto Mulholland – go through San Vicente fire gate

10.93mi Head west on Mulholland toward Sullivan fire road

13.0 mi Continue west on Mulholland Dr past Caballero Trail Head heading toward Reseda 

14 mi Turn right onto Reseda fire road

14.1 mi Continue on paved Reseda to parking

14.41mi Destination
