ULTRALADIES TRAINING RUN - SATURDAY, JULY 5

July 2, 2014

Everyone, please update yourself on all the info on the web page, especially the TRAIL GUIDELINES and FAQs.

* http://www.trailrunevents.com/ul/trail-guidelines.asp
http://www.trailrunevents.com/ul/faq.asp

* It is always a good idea to check the Trail Run Events Blog on the night before each run in case there has been a last minute change of location or even run cancellation.

* This run will be held "rain or shine".

* Please remember that this is a volunteer group and it is "free" to run with the group. That said, there are rules and recommendations as posted on the ULs website. The course arrows are made by volunteers who are not babysitters. You are running entirely at your own risk.

~ DATE: Saturday, July 5

~ RUN TIME: 7:00AM. Please arrive on time, shoes tied, bottles filled, ready to run at 7:00AM.

~ MEET TIME: Before 7:00AM.

~ NOTE ABOUT TIME:  I know you all would like to start earlier but realistically speaking, your 50K in August will start at 6:30am and many of you will be out there for seven or eight hours in the heat and running in the heat is the best way to train for the heat.

~ LOCATION: Mulholland fire road at Encino hills Drive.

~ DIRECTIONS:

Mulholland East aka Encino Hills
•    From the Valley:
•    Take Havenhurst south.
•    Continue onto Calneva to Mulholland.
•    Turn right and proceed to the dirt turn-off at Mulholland and Encino Hills Dr.
•    Turn left onto the dirt driveway and continue a short distance to parking area in front of the fencing just before the fire gate. Parallel parking is allowed in the dirt but check for any no parking signs just to be sure.
•    Parking is free.

Mulholland East aka Encino Hills
•    From 405:
•    Take Mulholland west past Calneva to the dirt turn-off at Mulholland and Encino Hills Dr.
•    Turn left onto the dirt driveway and continue a short distance to parking area in front of the fence just before the fire gate.  Parallel parking is allowed in the dirt but check for any no parking signs just to be sure.
•    Parking is free.

~ RUNNING TIME: Everyone will "run for time" on this run; MAX RUNNING TIME: 5h00m -- -- Designated turn-around time is 2h20m. This allows 2h40m to return. Five hour runs from now on are more than sufficient to finish the 50K.   Of course you may turn-around earlier, if you want shorter mileage or need an easy day.

~ SIGN IN SHEET: If you are running with the group, please use the sign-in sheet at the beginning and end of your run. Please note that if you fail to "check off" at the end of your run, you may risk having search and rescue called out at your own expense.  If you are running "on your own" and plan to exceed the time limit, please do not sign in.

~ WATER/TOILETS: Mile 9.0 and 15.4. - EVERYONE IS EXPECTED TO CARRY ENOUGH FLUIDS FOR 9.0 MILES  AND ON THE RETURN TRIP, THE 9.0 FEELS LIKE 19.0 MILES. RECOMMEND 60-80 OZ.

~ EMERGENCY WATER:  1) There is emergency water (fountains) at the end of Reseda. When you reach Bent Arrow Trail, just continue on the fire road up to the top and turn right at the fire gate. The top of Reseda is about 1/4 mile from the gate, on your left.  When you return to Mulholland fire road, turn left and continue to your vehicle.  2) There is emergency water one mile before the end of the run. When you approach Encino Hills fire gate, the Nike Missle Park will be on your right. There are toilets and running water. From there, you continue back to Mullholland, turn right for one mile to the cars.

~ ARROWS: Trails will be marked with minimal flour arrows. You will follow the same arrows out and back. There is no guarantee that you won’t get lost. Hikers may erase the marks; other running clubs mark their own arrows also; fatigue may cause you to miss an arrow. Pay attention to landmarks to avoid getting lost or better yet, carry your own bottle of flour and make your own arrows (seriously)! Remember, if you want to follow our arrows, you should stay behind the arrow marker.

BY ATTENDING THESE RUNS, YOU AGREE:

~That you are running at your own risk.
~That you are trained for and in shape for 24 very hilly miles.
~That you will carry enough fluid, calories and electrolytes to sustain you throughout the run.
~That you will run unsupported; finding your own way around the course following the printed directions.
~That you are fully prepared to run in the heat.
~That you may encounter poison oak.
~That you may encounter rattlesnakes and/or other wildlife.
~That you will wear hats, visors, bandanas, sleeves, and sun block.
~That you will not wear headphones while running on the course.
~That you will not litter the course.
~That you will not hold Trail Run Events, LLC or its agents or officers responsible for injury or death to yourself resulting from your training run.
~That you assume responsibility and expense for your own rescue and removal from the course should it be required. This includes, but is not limited to air evacuation.
