Dear Running Friends,

We are soliciting tax-deductible donations for our 501c3 charity, “New Basin Blues High School Cross Country Shoe Program”.  

For 15 years, we have raised funds to put high-end, custom fitted running shoes on local high school cross country runners.  Many of these kids would otherwise buy their shoes off the rack at a generic store and/or run in used hand-me-downs.  Another aspect of our program is that we personally take all the kids on a beautiful trail run in Griffith Park.  Each small group of kids runs with one or two adult mentors.  Just a few years ago, I was running 8-minute miles with a group of girls from Monroe High School and they said “Nancy, you are old enough to me our mother.”; I replied “I am old enough to be your grandmother!”  At 60y/o, I was telling the truth, and the girls got such a kick out of running with me!  

This whole program is to show our youth that running is important in our lives after high school and to introduce them into our running community-at-large. At our next XC Shoe Day on September 6, we will be bussing 120 kids from four local high schools and after sharing a beautiful trail run with them, they will all be personally fitted with gait analysis, and go home with their brand new pair of running shoes.
