ULTRALADIES TRAINING RUN, MAY 23

May 18, 2015
ULTRALADIES TRAINING RUN ON THE BULLDOG RACE COURSE:

**PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE MESSAGE; CONTAINS IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THIS RUN**

A FEW NOTES BEFORE WE GET TO THE RUN INFO.

1) On the last training run, someone went out beyond the turn-around time and a group of us had to wait more than an hour OT for their return. We knew the runners was not in because we saw the parked car with license plate written on the sign-in sheet. Please, if you dont plan to be back at your car before the 5h00m time limit, DO NOT SIGN IN on the ULs sheet.

2) Although cell reception is very "iffy" on mountain trails, here is my cell # in case you need help or want to reach me during the run:
575-756-4217.

3) This UL run is held in conjunction with the Bulldog Race Course Preview Run.

DATE: Saturday, May 23

LOCATION:
~ Malibu Creek State Park
~ 1925 Las Virgenes Road

PARKING:
~ Park on the NW side of Las Virgenes Road (this is before Mulholland Hwy when you are driving from the 101).
~ Look for the large sign that says SANTA MONICA MOUNTAINS RECREATION AREA
~ If coming from the 101, the sign will be on your RIGHT just before you come to the traffic light at Mulholland Hwy.
~ Turn into the large parking area and PARK HEAD IN to save space for others.

MEETUP & TIMES:
~ 6:30am - Parking and sign-in
~ 6:45am - Group photo and walk into MCSP to use the toilets.
~ The running clock will begin at 7:15am from the second set of toilets in the main parking lot.
~ 12:15pm - All runners safely back at their vehicles.

RUNNING DISTANCE/TIME - THREE OPTIONS:

~ Option #1 - 20 miles/5h option
~~~~ Run out for 10 miles or 2h15m (whichever comes first); turn around and return the same way. This allows 2h45m for the return; you will need it.
~ Option #2 - 16 miles
~~~~ Same as Training Run #2 - Run the 25K loop.

~ Option #3 - Time on your feet
~~~~ Go out and return the same way for as much time on your feet as you like. Please remember to check off your name if you return early and leave.
TOILETS: Toilets are available at the start/finish.
Toilet at Tapia Park (mile 13.1) is LOCKED. If you need to "use the facilities", please go off trail and bury your waste; pack out your soiled tissues.
WATER:
~~~~ There will be an emergency water stash up at Corral parking lot. Location will be given when you sign in. This stash is intended for the 20-mile runners. Please plan to carry 20oz for each hour you plan to be on the course.

~~~~ For those running the 25K loop, when you come into Tapia on the dry side, cross through the creek and come up to the large Tapia parking lot. In the middle of the parking lot there is a water faucet. Hopefully the water will be turned on but you never know. Please plan to carry 20oz of fluids for each hour you plan to be on the course.
RIBBONS:  A few surveyor ribbons may been tied at significant turning points but there is no guarantee that the ribbons have not been removed. The ribbons are off to the side so you need to look for them at turns. Best to print and carry the course directions.
FLOUR ARROWS: We do our best to mark the run but arrows are NOT GUARANTEED since they are often tampered with.
CREEK CROSSING: Please note; there is a creek crossing between Tapia Park west and Tapia Park east at mile 13.1. Please use the creek to cross; do not use the bridge on Las Virgenes.
ASSUMPTION OF RISK:  These training runs are unsupported. There will be little to no course markings; arrows and ribbons are not guaranteed. You are running at your own risk! Please stay with other runners so you are not along on the training course.
BY ATTENDING THESE RUNS, YOU AGREE:
~That you are running at your own risk.
~That you are trained for and prepared to run 15.6 very hilly miles.
~That you will carry enough fluid, calories and electrolytes to sustain you through the entire run.
~That you will run unsupported; finding your own way around the course, following the printed directions. ~That you are fully prepared to run in the heat.
~That you may encounter poison oak.
~That you may encounter rattlesnakes and/or other wildlife.
~That you will wear hats, visors, bandanas, sleeves, and sun block.
~That you will not wear headphones while running on the course.
~That you will not litter the course.
~That you will not hold Trail Run Events LLC or its agents or officers responsible for injury or death to yourself resulting from your training run.
~That you assume responsibility and expense for your own rescue and removal from the course should it be required. This includes, but is not limited to air evacuation.
RUNNING DIRECTIONS - PLEASE PRINT AND CARRY ON THE RUN:
Here is a link to a nifty Pocket Mod guide of the Bulldog race course. Easy to print and fold to carry on the run. Thanks to Michael Royer for making this.
