2010 Bulldog 50/25 Runner Letter

May 10, 2010

FROM THE RACE DIRECTOR:

BULLDOG 50K ULTRA RUN

BULLDOG 25K TRAIL RUN

SATURDAY, AUGUST 21, 2010

Dear Bulldog Runners:

Below is important information from the RD.  I suggest you print this out and read everything thoroughly to insure a safe and successful event for yourself and for your fellow runners.

DIRECTIONS TO BASE CAMP (START/FINISH):

From the Ventura Freeway (Hwy 101):

~ Exit Las Virgenes Road - go south.

~ Continue approximately 3 miles, past Mulholland Drive.

~ Turn right into Malibu Creek State Park.

~ If you hit Piuma Rd., youve gone too far...turn around and go back!

From Pacific Coast Hwy:

~ Go North on Malibu Canyon (directly south of Pepperdine University).

~ Continue approximately 5 miles, past Piuma Rd (past Tapia Park).

~ Turn left into Malibu Creek State Park.

~ If you hit Mulholland Dr., youve gone too far...turn around and go back!

There are three very important things you should do on race day:

1) CARPOOL!

2) CARPOOL!

3) CARPOOL!

Parking at MCSP is very limited. We have more runners registered than we have parking spaces; this is necessary to help pay the increasing fees required to stage this event in state and national parklands. Please carpool with your friends and fellow runners to insure that there will be enough parking for everyone.

State parking fees are $12.00 per vehicle at the gate.  Please bring exact change and have it ready upon entering the park.   If you possess a state parks season pass, it is good for this event.  Please display all parking placards visibly on your dashboard at all times while parked inside the park.

Free parking is available outside the park as follows:

Site #1:  You may park on three corners of Las Virgenes Road and Mulholland Highway, on the dirt.  Please observe signs that restrict parking before 5:00AM.  Parking on these corners is “head-in-parking”.  Some parallel street parking is also available on Mulholland Highway to the north of Las Virgenes Road.  Please use the crosswalks at the traffic signal to cross to the other side of the street.  There is a large Santa Monica Mtn. National Recreation Area sign on the north side of Las Virgenes Road just east of Mulholland Highway (at the flashing light).   There is a fairly good amount of space for parking here and at last inspection, there were no signs prohibiting parking.  From these corners, it is less than a 5-minute walk toward the west to enter Malibu Creek State Park.

Site #2:  There is quite a large shopping center at Albertson’s Market down on Agoura Road, just west of Las Virgenes Road. You might consider planning to meet up with other runners and leave some cars there.

PARKING INSIDE THE PARK:  We have a systematic plan to expedite parking. Please have your $12.00 parking fee ready before you approach the park. As you turn into the park entrance, you will be met by a race monitor who will collect the parking fee. You will move forward a short distance where another race monitor will give you a parking placard. Please remember to display your parking placard visibly on your dashboard. From there you will be instructed to follow the signals of the parking monitors who will direct you to the proper parking section.  Please do not choose your own parking space, rather park where they tell you to. This is the only way to insure that every space will be used and that you dont receive a parking violation for parking out of a space. This system worked well in 2009 and we filled every space.  25K runners, please be aware that we will briefly stop traffic at 6:30AM, to allow the start of the 50K.

CHECK IN TIMES:

The 50K start time is 0630. Bib pick-up starts at 0530.  Please do not arrive at the park before 5:00AM.  Please bring your DROP BAG to the check in area.

The 25K start time is 0730. Bib pick-up starts at 0630.  Please do not arrive at the park before 6:00AM.

THE PARK GATE WILL OPEN AT 5AM; PLEASE DO NOT LINE UP AT THE PARK ENTRANCE BEFORE 5AM BECAUSE IT WILL BACK UP TRAFFIC ON LAS VIRGENES ROAD AND WILL REALLY PISS OFF THE PARK RANGERS; NOT A GOOD WAY TO START THE DAY.

BIB PICK UP:  The 50K and 25K will have different color bibs.   We require bib pick up in person on race morning, per the times above.  Bib pick up on race morning is the only guaranteed way to know exactly who is out on the course.   Please allow ample time to pick up your bib and prepare to start the race.

Goodie bags, shirts and/or shirt sizes are not guaranteed for runners registering after the early deadline of July 14.   Sorry, the bag supplies and shirt orders needed to be placed early.
