Valley Crest Half Marathon Course Preview Runs

To help you prepare for the Valley Crest Half Marathon on Sunday June 12, the following training runs on the race course have been scheduled:

  • Saturday, April 30   Sunday, May 1
  • Saturday, May 14   Sunday, May 15
  • Saturday, May 28   Sunday, May 29

Please see below for additional information:

LOCATION:

  • Marvin Braude Mulholland Gateway Park (Valley Crest Half Marathon site).
    • Exit the 101 Fwy at Reseda Blvd in Reseda.
    • Turn South and go all the way up the hill.
    • Continue through the gate into Marvin Braude Mulholland Gateway Park.

PARKING: Meet below the white line on Reseda Blvd. in the free parking zone.  If you would like to use the porta potty before parking, drive up to the top of Reseda, then come back to park below the white line.

TIME: All runs start at 7:00 AM – Please arrive early as we will have a short trail briefing just before starting out.

DISTANCE: Different options available

  • 11-mile run (firegate to firegate)
  • 5-mile run to the west - make a u-turn at Alhama (first half of the race course)
  • 6-mile run to the east - make a u-turn at San Vicente fire gate (last half of the race course)

SUPPORT These runs are unsupported.  No water is available for these runs.  Please carry enough for the entire distance.  Electrolyte replacement fluids are recommended.

TOILETS: At start/finish only.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: These are out-and-back runs on hilly, graded fire roads.  The runs are on Mulholland fire road.  There will be no trail markers however there will be a short trail briefing at the start.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED:

  • Water belt or camelback with adequate water capacity.
  • Trail shoes are recommended but not required; suggest shoes with newer tread.
  • Hat, Sunscreen, Sunglasses, Etc.

PLEASE NOTEYou are running at your own risk.  The race directors of the Valley Crest Half Marathon assume no responsibility for you safety or well being on these training runs.  At the Trail Briefing, all participants will read and sign the liability waiver before running.

NOTE THE STOP SIGN AT PARK EXITThere is a PHOTO ENFORCED STOP SIGN at the park exit.  Please stop and count to 3 before proceeding ahead.
