Seeking Bulldog Race Volunteers

July 20, 2011

Seeking Bulldog Race Volunteers,

As you are aware, races such as the Bulldog would not be possible without the generous help of our volunteers.
Not only do the race organizers depend on you... the runners benefit greatly from your positive energy and inspiration!  It is well known that Trail Run Events have the best volunteers in the business!

We are presently compiling our volunteer team to help on Bulldog race day,
Saturday, August 27.   Please respond to this e-mail, yea or nay, about helping with the race this year.

HELP IS NEEDED AS FOLLOWS:

Malibu Creek State Park (MCSP)

Shift 1 - 4:30AM-10:30AM @ MCSP (half-day)
Park cars, bib pick-up, food preparation, shirt table, timers, etc.

Shift 2 - 10:00AM-4:00PM @ MCSP (half-day)
Timers, medal distribution, food service, awards, shirt table, clean-up,
etc.

Shift 3 - 5:00AM-4:00PM @ MCSP (all-day)
To assist with any of the above.

It is entirely possible to help with more than one job for example, help with parking then help with timing or the finish line.

Please NOTE, we always seem to run out of help during the afternoon. We could especially use some afternoon volunteers!

Other needs:

COURSE MARKERS:  Looking for a few semi-fast runners to assist in marking  the course. We are looking for runners who:

(a) Can help mark the course in the dark starting late Friday evening.  Requirements are that runners should be totally familiar with how to navigate the race course on their own, in the dark, while carrying marking tape/flour

(b) Can run the race course starting at 4:30AM to check for course vandalism.  Requirements are that runners should be able to run fast enough to complete the 25K distance ahead of the 50K leaders who will start at 6:30AM.  Requires carrying marking tape/flour to reinforce markings that are not clear.

AID STATION CREW: Help is also needed at aid stations and requires a time commitment as follows:

  • Station 1&5 = 5:00AM to 11:45AM
  • Station 2&6 = 5:30AM to 1:00PM
  • Station 3&7 = 6:00AM to 2:45PM

Please note the second times are times the stations close down; there is some additional time required to transport supplies back to the finish area.

NEED VOLUNTEERS WITH TRUCKS OR LARGE SUVS

Assistance is needed transporting supplies and volunteers to each aid station on the race course.  If you have a truck, cargo van or large SUV, we would welcome your offer of help.  Two of our aid stations are on paved roads so it will not require driving off road unless you indicate that you are willing.  Times are per above, depending on location of the station.

COURSE SWEEPERS:

Looking for a handful of runners to sweep the race course of trash and pace the last runner safely through the race course.  Requires patience beyond measure to stay behind the slowest 50K runner.   Requires starting from Station 4 in Malibu Creek Park at 10:30AM and following the last runner through the entire 25K race course; finishing approximately 3:00 to 3:30PM.

100-Mile runners will receive documentation for their volunteer time at
the Bulldog Races.
